Lena's method

Lena has been teaching Pilates for over 20 years, drawing on a background in ballet and dance — a world of strength, grace, and discipline.

Now Pilates is close to her heart, though when she began her training in 2003, she couldn’t quite see what made it so special. The focus on breathing and the mysterious “core” was hard to grasp, especially as no one seemed able to explain it clearly at the time.

From the outside, Lena looked effortlessly fit — long lines, graceful movement, a spine held proudly straight. Inside, though, her lower back ached almost constantly. However, she never questioned it, believing that was simply how things were.

She hadn’t come to Pilates to solve pain — she hadn’t realised that being in pain wasn’t normal. It didn’t affect her range of movement; exercises like the roll-down looked flawless when she demonstrated them, even though they felt uncomfortable.

Gradually, through practice and by paying attention to the small messages her body was giving her, she began to notice subtle changes taking place. Pilates changed everything. Today, that same movement Roll Down has become one of her favourites — a reminder that transformation often begins with the smallest details.

Over the years, many of Lena’s clients have continued practising with her for a decade or more, drawn by her calm, attentive teaching and the way her classes evolve naturally with each person’s needs and stage of life.

Experience & Training

Alongside teaching, Lena has spent years deepening her understanding of how the body moves and adapts.

She completed a 200-hour Advanced Level course in Anatomy & Myofascial Movement for Movement Teachers with Gary Carter, explored biomechanics and neuro-movement, studied the pelvic floor in depth, qualified with APPI as a Women’s Health Pilates Instructor, and trained as a Franklin Method® Pelvic Floor Fascia Trainer.

Through this work, she has helped many women restore their pelvic floor function — changes that have truly transformed their daily lives.

Lena also has extensive experience teaching older and frailer adults, supporting individuals with disabilities, and working with clients who have Parkinson’s. She is a recognised NHS Falls Prevention Instructor and has extensive experience working for Age UK, helping individuals who have experienced falls or who have a fear of falling.

Her Approach

Rooted in classical Pilates yet enriched by ongoing study and exploration, Lena’s teaching focuses on:

  • Listening to the body

  • Noticing subtle shifts

  • Understanding how breath and fascia connect every part of us

At its heart is the belief that movement can be both gentle and challenging, enjoyable and deeply effective — helping each person find strength, freedom, and ease in their own body.

“Real transformation often begins with the smallest details.”
