The Art of Subtle Movement Retreat.
16 - 23 October 2027

Location & Surroundings

Set in the sun-drenched landscapes of Andalucía, southern Spain, the Almería region offers a striking mix of rugged mountains, semi-desert scenery and the sparkling Mediterranean Sea. Close to the spectacular Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, with its volcanic rock formations, secluded coves and beautiful wild beaches, this is a place to slow down, explore and reconnect with the natural world.

Around the Retreat

Exploring the area Finca del Alamo sits in the countryside near Níjar, in the Cabo de Gata area of Andalucía. The coastline is protected, which is why its beaches are some of the least developed on the Spanish Mediterranean. They’re a short drive away, not on the doorstep, so getting there is part of any day out. Transport can be arranged at an extra cost. A day at the beach. Genoveses is about 40 minutes away. Spend as long as you like on the sand, then walk on to the fishing village of San José for a drink or dinner. Agua Amarga, about 30 minutes away, is smaller and quieter. There is a village to wander round and an optional 40-minute walk to Cala de Enmedio, a beach you can only reach on foot. In mid-October the weather is mild, so the walk is a pleasure. A day in Almería. About 35 minutes away. Visit the cathedral and the Moorish Alcazaba, and have lunch at Casa Puga, a traditional tapas bar that has been going since 1870. Booking is a good idea. Closer to home. Níjar is a gentler option, with a church square, a lookout tower, local pottery, a butterfly house and a cactus garden. The walk to the old village of Huebro takes about two hours and ends at a reservoir where locals swim, and it’s very pleasant in the October weather. If you’d like something more active, there is stargazing, horse-riding, kayaking, quad biking in the Tabernas desert and the Oasys “Mini Hollywood” film-set park, about 40 minutes away. These are run by outside companies and booked directly with them.

More than a week of movement

What if, instead of always trying to do more, stretch further or push harder, we gave ourselves space?

Space to move with curiosity, to breathe more freely, to notice familiar patterns and discover new possibilities. When we change the way we move and give our nervous system a chance to settle, we may begin to experience our bodies — and ourselves — differently.

That is at the heart of my retreats. Pilates is the starting point, but the experience goes beyond Pilates and the exercises: a week to explore, reconnect and make room for something new.

What to expect from my movement retreats
